On June the 17th, 18th and 19th  three informative workshops with landowners and farmers of Andros took place in Gavrio, Chora and Korthi in the context of the project LIFE TERRACESCAPE.

Those workshops aimed to inform all key stakeholders on the benefits derived from a possible participation in the Land Stewardship Organization, composed by the project, under the responsibility of the Green Fund, as well as the farming opportunities and perspectives of the selected local varieties, in the terraces to be included in the project. The organization of the meetings was implemented with the assistance of the Municipality of Andros.

Specialized lecturers presented a plan concerning the consultative support for farmers that are going to cooperate with the Organization, while discussion on the future prospects of promotion of the agricultural products produced by the project was made.

By products, we refer to agronutritional products of high added value ,which are going to be certified for the production strategy implemented ,ensuring a reduced  environmental / climate footprint and respecting local biodiversity and unique island landscape.

In collaboration with local enterprises the certified products will be promoted in the market of Andros and of other islands of the Aegean, in order to profit from the opportunities given by the popularity and the visiting delirium that distinguishes the area.

The presentations were given by professor Thanasis Kizos from the University of Aegean, expert on the promotion of local products, and a researcher from HAO-Demeter, Dr. Fotini Milona, expert on the selection and multiplication of the local varieties.

Mrs. Vicky Kleftogianni, representative from the Green Fund, responded on questions made by the stakeholders, while in issues concerning the selection of terraces that will be included in the project, the answers given by Mr. Isidoros Nikolaou, responsible of the project on behalf of the Municipality of Andros and Tasos Dimalexis, project manager of the LIFE project, were very helpful.

The series of discussion will continue in July with open presentation in the agglomerations of Arni and Kochylou.
